I will be pulling in to Manly / Moerton bay in the next week or two and was fishing for any tips regarding tides channels etc as it's a bit shallow to say the least. I get the feeling some of this will be sailing by brail ;-) could be bumpy so any thoughts or past experience would be greatly appreciated. I am currently in Newcastle just doing some wotk on the boat before I nick off a bit further north.
I am looking at the charts and it looks interesting to say the least.

OTT we draw 2.65m so no trouble and we pretty go much everywhere
Just need the skill set.
What do you draw?

I draw just on two so that's reassuring to know, I just see lots of small numbers and I understand it has quite the current to use if timed correctly. just getting my head around it all.

If you are cutting through from Southport via Jacob Wells, you may need to play the tides. We draw 1.7 and were going North to South on a rising tide.
We ran aground near Browns Bay at Russell Island. Even though we were in the channel at half tide, you may need to stay closer to Long Island. It got very shallow from the boat ramp to Jacob Wells, but we just had clearance.

Jacobs well was the only trouble I had at 1.8m keel. High tide was no trouble though.
No probs anywhere north of there as long as the tides were on the top half.

If you have Navionics charts, stick to the dotted line and come up the main channel past Jacobs Well you will have no problems. My draft is 2.2m. At the top of Russel Island you can go left through the Ws and up past the Banana Banks and on to Manly . It is best to do Tiplers to the top of Russel Island on a rising tide above half tide.
