I am chasing a mooring, from Mangles Bay to Swan river. Sailboat 24 footer.
Take over, buy or sub-lease, long term preferred, but a few months wouldn't be a deal breaker. As close to Fremantle as possible., Bicton would be primo!
Boat pen would be acceptable also as long as not movie star prices- LOL.

Moorings in both Mangles Bay and anywhere in the Swan are as rare as hens teeth considering both are mooring controlled areas.

This site often has something although nothing at the moment.

And there is this on Marketplace. Overkill for your needs but it’s available.

Toph is right - moorings are hard to come by. They can no longer be transferred between individuals - so when someone sells a boat they have to hand the mooring back to the govt, who will then assign it to the next person on the waiting list. You will need to contact DoT to get your name on the list and pay the waiting list fee - if you want to get a mooring via the proper channels.

You could try approaching some of the yacht clubs - they often have moorings that are under their own control and might be more readily available. However, you'll need to be a member of the club and that will add to the cost.

Thanks guys for the advice.
Actually (maybe pure luck?) I have found a mooring now, right in Bicton.

Prime spot…

Are you leasing it out of interest? To ad to Microbe’s post unless it’s changed you can buy the apparatus just not the seabed it’s anchored to. About 5-6 years ago moorings were being sold for 15-20k which was not likely very legit. Some (trusting) people sold boats and kept a level of ownership still ($1) and kept the mooring registered in their name.

People will find a way 😎

I am being added as an 'additional user' to someone's mooring that would otherwise not be being used, which is legit usage.

The additional user approved period is a bit confusing: "Maximum authorisation period is 9 months per mooring site licence period or upon expiry of current mooring licence", but it seems that you can keep renewing it after that for another 9 month period- as long as you pay a new fee. You might want to check that.

This at least helps when selling a boat on a mooring - the seller can keep the mooring in their name and add the purchaser as an additional user, allowing the purchaser to keep the boat on the mooring until they are able to get a mooring in their own name.

There seems to be a move to remove the smaller pens of 8m, (at least at Hillarys) and I'll guess this thinking would spread to other clubs as well if not already.
Getting rid of those pesky budget sailboats and making way for the growing number of 8-10m Stink boats that need pens. 🤔
