Hi all
I have a 26ft Endeavour in lake macquarie.
It needs a new anchor, chain and rope.
I am after some advice on size and length of all the above.
I have googled it and am more confused than ever.
I only sail in the lake. Might sail to Boughton island one day. On my bucket list.
The current anchor is a folding flat sand anchor. It fits in a compartment at the bow of the boad. So only the same style will fit in this space. I can however store the anchor seperate and the chain and rope in the compartment.
Any advice appreciated.
Oh.and i have a $100 voicher to RTM so i can put this towards the chain and rope from there.
Thanks heaps.
The anchor well will be the limiting factor in your choice of anchor. Roll bar style anchors will probably not fit. The Endeavour 26 would not need that big an anchor and a Fortress style of sand anchor would be enough anyway. I would suggest 6 metre of 8mm chain and 20 to 30 metres of used 14mm double braid. The double braid is good on the hands and it lays down well in the anchor locker. Used rope is ideal. For the anchor I would check the dimensions of the popular 6 kg high hold anchors like the Rocna Vulcan and see if they fit. They are very expensive and probably too much for an Endeavour. I use a home made SS replica of an Ultra and if your handy then tailor making an anchor to suit your well makes sense. I think your best option would be a Fortress or a Chinese replica of a Fortress. Whitworths have the alloy FX11 but you could get away with an FX7.
