I didn't check or comment when the new forum layout was being developed but now it's live I'm feeling I'm not as committed to seabreaze as I was in the past.

I don't know why the layout was changed it just seems they have arranged it so more advertising can be displayed which I find rather enoying.

hopefully over time I can adjust but at the present time I feel I now have lost a bit of intrest. Does anyone else feel the same?

regards

I reckon that the new format is actually more logical and user friendly, it just takes getting used to.

Yep, I agree Southace, I am glad you mentioned it, I thought it was me.
It doesn't make any sense on a logical level, but yes, I feel exactly the same way.
Weird, huh?

I have to agree. It seems to have lost the easy community feel it had. Specifically, I like to be able to see who started a thread and who just commented. I don't like having threads I may have commented on at the top, that I made a comment does not mean I have a continuing interest.
Or is it that the new layout coincides with my becoming bored with the increasing repetitive nature of threads.
i logged on every day or two before it changed, now every couple of days.

Yes I much prefer the previous layout. The current layout wastes a lot of space. Even if a post has only one line of content there are about 6 or more blank lines underneath it. Strange and annoying.
I also don't like the right hand third of my screen now being taken up by advertising.

MB, you can. Up top on the right is a button "compact" or "detailed". Click o that and it will give you the details your after.

You can unsubscribed from the post. I think there have been a few queries to be 'Opt In' as oppose to the current Opt Out, but I wouldn't know if there are plans to change it.

There will always be a need for change. Sometimes by necessity and sometimes just to remain modern and fresh. The forum on a whole needed refreshing.

If you hang around forums long enough you will also see a period of repetitiveness. As knew members come onboard they will inevitably ask questions that have been asked before. A lot of the old salts on this forum have gained their experience from this site. Would be good for them to return that knowledge.

There was a period where the two sites ran concurrently where comment was requested. There is a link at the top of this page where you can contact Laurie for comment.

Ps... I dont seem to have any ads down the side. Just one banner up top and one about midway down the page.

I might have to stand corrected. There may have been a change.

this is what bothers me a bit too. you have to look around for the recent posts as theres a mixture of 2d, 53m, 1d old posts etc.
its not as user friendly. also on the phone when typing theres a great big arrow always in the way and i have to keep scrolling.
i tihnk the proof is in how much activity theres been since the change. A bit less i think.
Its a shame if people lose interest cause its a great forum but i feel that for whatever reason people may have lost some interest. I know i have a little.

Overall I think its a positive change, as said before just takes getting used to.
The pages look 'cleaner' (which probably makes the ads stand out more, until we get used to it).
A big positive is only the first couple of lines are shown in a "Quote" reply is shown, that's heaps quicker to read, without endless scrolling to get past something you've already read.
Zillas point about the empty space below a post is good, I hadn't noticed that before....It looks like each post gets allocated a minimum amount of 'real estate' if you like, if only a couple of lines are written, that space is then left blank (wasting space & scrolling time), that could be changed.
I know forum versions of phpBB or whatever have to be updated constantly, the change may have been prompted by a required update behind the scenes.

Steve, all the posts are in order, that is newest to oldest from the top down, on my computer. The only ones that are at the top all the time are those that I am subscribed to, indicated with a star. If I want these to revert to their date of posting all I have to do is unsubscribe.
Cheers, Bob.

I don't think it's gone just going back a few pages perhaps. What I'm saying is some seem to have lost interest or perhaps just busy with the Christmas hustle and Brussel!

Southace, when the new forum was rolled out you were automatically 'subscribed' to a post you started or participated in (the cause of one of your earlier comments above about posts not in order).. The majority of the forum didn't like this and now you need to subscribe to ALL posts. When you start a post you can select the little star at the bottom or select subscribe at any other time.

What! The majority of the forum didn't like this? So they changed it? I liked how my own posts stayed on the top. This is the reason I don't vote or gamble as you never win over the majority . Oh I really don't like change but I work through it if possible.
