I've been yacht racing for a few years on Sydney harbour and enjoyed it but would like to move to non-racing sailing. The clubs all seem to have a strong focus on racing, and I wonder if anyone knows a club which welcomes completely non-racing members? I'm essentially looking for groups with which to do casual sailing on weekends and am open to either small yachts or dinghies.

Thanks for any tips.

The Coastal Crusing Club of Australia, as the name implies, is non-racing. They meet in Mosman monthly and have a sailing get-together about as often, I think. Nice folks. Majority are retirees. Yachts of any type as long as you can sleep in it I suppose.

Thanks DrRog. I've a non-sailing family so would be looking for day sails rather than overnight cruises. At the ripe old age of 35 wouldn't say no to a slightly younger crowd :-)

My sister is well below retiring age and has been a active member of the CCC for about 10 years. There are a few younger members. It is very much a social scene, most members haven't seen a swell except in passing West Head. Some however, have sailed the world.
A good bunch. Give it a go.
As an aside, wife and I had dinner with sister on her Valiant last night at Cammeray marina. Gee it is a beautiful boat, inside and out. They are living aboard and soon to head off to distant destinations.

No harm in giving it a go I suppose.

That's once I actually get a boat to sail.... the usual problem. Sigh.

Does anyone think a group doing regular casual sails on Sydney harbour would be popular?

Thanks for the offer MB. Where are you based? It's been a while since I've sailed up there, mostly having been on racing boats on Port Jackson.

The boat is in Salt Pan Cove Pittwater, in the bay just north of the RMYC. I am in Chatswood.

I sailed Mischief (excellent name for a yacht my sister owns) down from Bundaberg when she bought her but haven't been on her for a few years. A true blue water classic now set up to be a comfortable home afloat.
