I believe that all of the newer ones are sold overseas. That promotes the class in countries other than Aust.
I am informed that it may also be done to prevent a rival fleet being created (as happened with the Club and League 18's a few years ago)

What JayBee said. Im not an 18 sailor but from what the 18 boys have been discussing over here, they keep the 18 ownership "inhouse" ie you can get a boat off the club (for a fee), campaign it/look after it, but never actually own it Id contact the club directly to find out what the go is.

Lot of older boats went to Adelaide in the last few years. There was an attempt to get a few owners together there.

Many years ago we had 7 in a local club at one time for a few years. Boats were bought for peanuts and a sailing club was formed at Sanctuary Point on St Georges Basin. It went well for awhile but costs were fairly high to run these boats and sponsorship appeared. One of the keen sailors was the manager of the Ford dealership and he turned up one day with one of the carbon fibre hulled Colour 7 boats with full sponsorship and it was all down hill from then on. See the odd one on eBay but generally just the gear gets sold, hulls are not much good for anything.

How old? 70's or 80's?

Either way, the best thing to do is to talk to the 18 footer clubs around (18'ers league, Brisbane 18's etc.)

I have sailed both the modern skiff and a few of the older 70's plywood skiffs and there are a few of the older plywood boats around. They even tried to start a "classics" division up here at one stage as there were about 5 boats being sailed.

Skiffs Australia on Facebook. The guy running that snaps up all the old boats that can be found. He is putting new rigs and sails and trying to start a competition in Adelaide with dreams of taking it around the country...

From this forum posted last October.
=======================
Skiffs Australia are re fitting out more 18ft ex grand prix and league skiffs in adelaide

Opportunities are there for experienced sailors to get involved in 18ft skiffs.

These skiffs are highly demanding and challenging and are considered as the Pinnacle of dingy sailing.

Come and experience one for your self

the best sailing I have seen on TV has been the Sydney 18 footers.
I've still got VHS tapes of Ella BAche, Hogs breath, Club Marine, etc screaming around Sydney Harbor, doing nosedives and capsizing on each other.

I've kept a VHS player specifically just to use to transfer them to DVD one rainy day.
