Hi,

I read an old post on here from someone that said they chartered a Compass 29 on the Hawkesbury. Maybe I am losing my mind as I cannot find it.

Are there any companies that do bareback yacht charters on older boats around Sydney, Pittwater or Port Stephans? I am looking at buying an older boat (30 odd foot) so keen to experience some first (mainly keen for my wife to experience one as we have only sailed on nice new boats). Would happily charter one for a week or so.

I also saw a Gumtree add from a guy wanting to rent his boat for 3 months for $3k over summer. Is that a common thing?

Thanks, Jack

Think that's going to be a tough task. Plenty of bareboat charter companies around Pittwater but the yachts are not older types and the $s are not low. Don't believe that 3 months rent thing is common. Suggest you make a very short list of older yachts around 30 foot that would suit your planned sailing - assume cruising day sailing and occasional overnight just the 2 of you? - and post them in this forum for opinions - expect you will be flooded with good inputs from people who have owned them. Or just buy a Traditional 30..........very well built and designed, a top cruiser/club racer all rounder. I have never owned one and have nothing to do with the below boat................

Could you dig up that ad and post it here.?
Very interesting idea, but I could see risks for both parties involved.

Thanks Azure.
$3000 for three months. $250 per week. $500 for two weeks.
Make an offer of $750 (or more) for two weeks rental.
The biggest selling point or drawback in getting you wife interested will be the head/shower setup.
If it is cold, dirty , not functioning, forget it.

If he is worried about his wife enjoying it I don't think I would go for a traditional .
I am bias but a Mottle 33 with hot shower, separate head and an aft cabin so separated from the kids would suit much better.
But I would more suggest a production boat caravan like a Benny or Catalina the wife will enjoy it much more.

I have been renting out my boat (fairly old sailboat) in Sydney via Click&Boat ( www.clickandboat.com/en/ ), a boat hire platform. Think they are French. Bareboat - I don't mind, but need to see papers first....3 months - that's quite unusual I would say.
