There are some Things you just take for granted without really looking . This morning I decided to go for a quick sail around the harbour . I was only 200 metres from the mooring when the bilge pump cut in , I thought it will stop soon must be the water running to the back of the bilge ( there was about 1 bucket full when I left ). It didn't stop , so I thought being by myself I will go to the mooring and check . The stern gland had unscrewed from the housing , I discovered then that there was no lock nut . I'm not dropping the shaft to put one on , so will make up a two piece split nut till it goes up on the slips again . Has any one else discovered some thing is missing on their boat that they hadn't noticed .

If you can keep it dry, Locktite might do the trick.

Length of hose split and placed over the shaft. Couple of hose clips and slide the hose down so the end places a slight pressure against the gland nut.
