I have a 24ft Marauder Keel Boat. I want to put a 4 stroke air cooled outboard on it. Has anyone done this on a Marauder? Did you put the motor in the well or off the back, if its in the well does it turn easily so you can go in reverse, and what advise can you give me?

I have a 24ft Marauder, it came with an 8HP 2 stroke that hangs off the back - it works OK but I am new to all this so what would I know? Heavy engine hanging off the back does upset the trim a bit tho...

I had a M27 which I had three outboard motors over the years, ist a 6hp, then a 4hp and finaly a honda 2hp aircooled. the boat droped less than 1/2 a knot between all the motors and they all worked well.

The honda 2hp was the best althought the heviest, it was aircooled so no salt water issues. Yo do need to be careful about laying it down, if you tilted the wrong way the oil comes out the breather.

But not having it mix oil, fantastic, I would recommend again.

An outboard on the back is OK, although you will get cavitation if you have anyone too far forward. Especially if you have to go over tidal bars that are a bit choppy. It's an interesting experience having the engine come out of the water. It works, in all but the worst conditions, but it's not ideal. It's the system I have on my Top Hat though because the previous owner bought a Tohatsu 8hp 4 stroke, that didn't quite fit in the well properly.

Check the dimensions of the well, compared to the powerhead of the outboard, but also see if you can get the swing dimensions, because you will need to steer with the outboard when reversing.
