Hi ppl my fathers shoulders are deteriorating of late with tendon damage to both shoulders giving grief and keeping him from surfing and sailing at the present.

To make sailing easier on his body he has fitted much larger winches and is going down the track of using a power drill with the required attachment s to use the winches saving his shoulders.

Any tradies or people with hands on experience with power drills want to disclose their most favoritist weapon and reasons why they are your most favoritist.
Thanks

No real experience with this problem but it seems to me that a power drill in not really what you're looking for. The power drill handle won't provide enough leverage for what you're thinking. You'll want something with at least a 12" handle to get enough leverage to handle the loads.

Ok yeah I think with the limited research he's done atm the best option looks like one of those right angle drills big handle and solid clutch assembly for ease of use.
Milwaukee has seemed ppopular also.
Thanks.

Yes recently he replaced the existing winches with big mamas ( dont know the brand) of about twice the size so in theory that should cut the effort of winding the sail on to about half.

But due to the severity of pain he is getting drill power is now a necessity also. Cheers

This was on the yacht when we bought it. Grinds our main up 15m easily. It draws from two 12V motorbike batteries wired in series and we charge them in parallel.

Another option is permanently upgrading one or more of the winches to electric winches. I did this for my mainsail halyard winch, since this is the one which does the most work.
