Hi We now finally have a private mooring license from Maritime. Only just spoke with a ship wright today and realised that you just get an "occupation license" it does'nt mean there is any block or apparatus on it. We now have to pay $900 to have a new block put down with apparatus as the other block was not serviceable. Does that mean we can sell it if we ever sell our boat. Does that also mean it is the luck of the draw as to what mooring you get, if you get one with a good block etc and nothing to pay. Maybe I'm missing something here.
You lease a section of the the sea floor and an area to swing around in. The mooring block and your yearly service are your responsibility.
Mine cost me $1500, supplied and installed.
Insurance requires a mooring service/inspection at least annually......although I cannot find it in the PDS.....that what I have been told......so I just go with it.
And yes you can sell the tackle when you are done with it.
If there is no waiting list in your area, you can sel the boat with the mooring licence and tackle.
However, if there is a waiting list, it becomes difficult.......as I am finding out now.
The mooring contractor won't offer you anything, but may take it off your hands, as it your responsibility to have it removed after you give up the license....screwed both ends, however $226/year is pretty good to keep your boat and a little are of harbour to call your own.....that's what I pay.
The mooring from Maritime is the water space only. Yes you will own the block you put down. If it is serviceable and suitable for the next boat you should be able to sell it to them. I was lucky and got to keep my mooring as my boat was already on it. Often it hasn't been looked after and is useless or it is not suitable for the next boat, then you have to get rid of it. Selling them isn't easy as the cost of moving it to a new site is often the same as putting a new one down and the new owner will usually want a new one. Welcome to boating, additional unexpected costs when you think you have it sorted.
