I have a question regarding the use of R44.2
R44.2 One-Turn and Two-Turns Penalties
After getting well clear of other boats as
soon after the incident as
possible, a boat takes a One-Turn or Two-Turns Penalty by
promptly
making the required number of turns in the same direction, each turn
including one tack and one gybe. When a boat takes the penalty at or
near the finishing line, she shall sail completely to the course side of
the line before finishing.
R21.2 A boat taking a penalty shall keep clear of one that is not.
I was just wondering if anyone has ever heard of a protest being filed because a boat (fleet racing) did not exhonerate herself as soon after the incident , and promptly.
Sometimes it can be hard to spin asap because you are also subject to R21.2 when carrying a penalty also bearing in mind R14.
I have just checked the ISAF case book and there are no examples of R44.2 specificaly being used.
My question is : Would you protest another boat for blatent non compliance with R44.2 if they for example sailed on and hinderd your race position by stealing your wind?
What are your thoughts.
