Johnson F4B-9 pump

Im looking for some suitable screws for the cover plate. The heads on mine are burred.

Loads of stainless available but I believe not suitable due to galvanic corrosion? I see some of the service kits using stainless and would probably be ok with some barrier paste?I think the body of the pump is bronze?

M4x8 but can be longer.

What should I use?

Thanks firey. I dont see any M4 brass at bunnings which is annoying.

I see plenty of people just using SS, even direct from the manufacturers. Perhaps I am worrying too much.

On this subject I took cover off my VP 2003 raw water pump a few weeks ago to check impeller because raw water flow had stopped. It turned out to be blocked heat exchanger.

But the good news was when putting the pump cover back on I tried Permatex gasket maker ($15) from Supa Cheap instead of ordering and waiting for a gasket kit. It works great. It sealed the cover back on and no drips.

Dammit!! Are there no purists left here anymore??

If you are going to have a bronze impeller pump, it should have dome headed, blade slotted bronze cover plate screws.

What is the world coming to with all this newfangled metallurgy??

I would like to have a spare pump all reconned and ready to fit if the one on the engine fails. A quick fix especially when the engine is really needed.
Trouble is they are so damned expensive.
