Hi, I'm a first timer here on this forum and am the proud owner of a Roberts 25 Adventure (shoal draft) which we have now had for 4 years. Living on the Gold Coast is great for sailing and we have enjoyed not only many local trips but have sailed to (and around) Moreton Island, been to Fraser Island and southern Great Barrier Reef and also down to Yamba - keen to chat to other sailors with similar stories, not just other Roberts owners, but it would be great to chat to some. Last week I tore the main in half and I'm now waiting for a brand newie to be made - quite excited really. No one likes having to fork out $$$ for new gear but the main was showing signs of wear, and I believe it was the original, so bring on the new one!

You won't know yourself when you start using the new main .

She will sail so much better when the breeze gets up , you will be able to flatten the sail , and sail with a unreefed main further into to the wind scale.

Enjoy !!

thanks for your comments sandS- really looking forward to it - getting a fully battened sail after much consideration. The advantages seem to outweigh the disadvantages. We are off to Yamba again late December so that will be a good test! with a breeze, a current and a brand new sail it may well be our fastest, funnest sail yet!

Great little boat the Roberts 25

If my memory serves me right the South Coast 25 was a direct spin off.

A friend of ours had a SC 25 with a BMW diesel 9hp fitted. I always thought that it was a very sound yacht.

He managed to go wherever we went in our keel boat and it would be very rare when he would say that the weather was too bad.

Hope you have a very successful cruise with the new main.

Thanks Dusty,
We have a 12 hp Volvo Penta in ours and she just purrs along. After buying her in Gladstone in 2007 the old Vetus died at Kingfisher Bay on the way home so after 3 months berthed in Hervey Bay we were on our way south again with the new power plant- we still call it our new engine even though we now have over 700 hours on it - less than 1 LTR per hour! For a shoal draft she sails very well offshore and she just loves a nice 15-20 breeze

Just thought I would say hello as I am also a owner of a 25 Roberts adventurer and live on the coast. It would be great to swap stories and ideas. We are only new to sailing and any advice is helpful

Welcome to the forum Benny,

Reduce sail early and try and sail the Roberts flat, any angle of heel over 15degrees with a shoal draft and you are sailing sideways as fast as forward.

Enjoy!

another Roberts 25 owner (in Perth)

FYI, I had a quote the other day for a 135% furling genoa for the Roberts from fareastsails.com. They're in Hong Kong. The quote was $USD $1909 less 45% discount. (just over $1000). I thought this was very reasonable.

You will not be disappointed in their sails.

I have a genoa made by them and it is superb, the workmanship leaves our local sailmakers for dead.

In the CYCT there are a number of yachts who have started dealing with FES, with a range of sails from spinnakers, mizzen stay sails, mains and genoas.

The extra bonus is that they value the sales below the duty threshold. No import tax or duty.

hi Sands, I finally got my new main and WHAT A SAIL ! Christened it the other afternoon here on the coast - quiet, responsive, it's fully battened so it's no longer a 'bag' that flaps around in the breeze. I had a worrying moment when I first hoisted it as the top batten was just touching the back stays. I dropped it and managed to get the batten in about another cm and whooshka it just misses. Great job done by Ben and his team at Sailtech in Tingalpa !! I don't mind paying for quality

Hi BennyP, sounds like there's a few of us out there hey? I just love our little ship- she's a shoal draft, have sailed here up to the reef and down to Yamba, around Moreton and heaps of local stuff- she's like a new boat with the new main !
