I have number of jobs to do, some boat related, some boat, trailer, some car and some household. In the past I've had varying success with the selleys acid and anti rust paint its OK but not great.

A few years ago I had a boat partnership with a guy I've lost contact with. He had this amazing paint that he used. His method was to clean up the surface remove any loose or deep rust but don't get rid of it entirely, even take it back to metal and let that overnight patina develop. Put down the bottom coat then finish with the top, 2yrs later and that paint was like new.

It sounds like he used Por 15 because he didn't wash the acid off.

Has anyone used Por or do they have something better?

I have never used POR 15.
To remove rust it pretty much depends on the item. For car bodies use the propriety acids you buy at auto paint shops or apple vinegar. A tank of molasses is apparently a good way to remove rust if you can fit the item in a tub, check out Youtube.

To clean the Stainless items on your boat I use a product made here called "Metal Glean", its a mixture of acids.

For your boat trailer, mini grinder with a flapper zircon wheel and get back to shiny steel. Treat with acid and wash off. Don't bother with rust converters.

Aldi metal paint is the go, about $8 a litre. Watch out for the fumes!
