I also have a Sonata 6, so am probably well placed to answer this.I'm not quite sure what you mean about a safety line on your forestay? Do you mean a 2nd wire that will stop the mast from dropping in case your forestay breaks? If that's what you're asking - then No, you don't need that.Its unlikely for the forestay to break without outside influence (strong wind, collision etc) If you are sailing with a headsail up then there will probably be a luff wire in the sail itself that will be taking the pressure off the forestay. Especially if you are in the sort of strong winds that might cause a de-rigging (in that case you will crank down on the halyard and to tighten that luff).If you are concerned about the quality of your forestay get a rigger to check and replace it. It should be a 5mm SS wire that will have a breaking strain of 2,000kg which would be enough to lift a couple of Sonata 6s out of the water.
