Where are you Robdog? It probably would also help, or be much more helpful, if you simply got in some practice on someone's yacht, and thereafter only one or 2 books would be needed.
Most books I buy are secondhand and I buy them online, and certainly not all about sailing.
ISBN 0-75370-307-6 "The complete book of sailing" is quite comprehensive.
The first 'how to sail' book I read was particular to the Mirror dinghy I bought, but I've since tossed the book away. I recall that there are books in my local library including a "Dummies" book, which is usually quite comprehensive too, but by the time you've read the book it is just more words. I would recommend going sailing with someone, and the practice will cement the knowledge in your mind, but reading endlessly then sailing, and you'd have forgotten half it.

Yes i am volunteering on a boat at hillarys yacht Club but want to learn the theory before doing the practical.
I find most boats prefer you to have some idea before jumping on thier boat which i understand.

Theory Rules
1 don't fall overboard
2 don't let the boom hit you in the head
3 don't get hit by the boom and fall over board.

pass them there rules and skipper will be stocked

I am looking to learn about keel boats and trailer sailers.
Knowing most books only get read once i was not wanting to add to my library of new books.
Will take very good care of any borrowed books and will replace if lost or damaged.

I have heaps of books on yachting I pick up from Vinnies. All the classics and they are always cheap. Strangely I never get any from the salvos shops!

Perhaps we can put that down to Vinnies' more 'catholic' approach to reading.

No I think it is the different type of people that work for the Salvos. They knock off all the good stuff before it gets to the shelves! Also our Vinnies is opposite the town library.
