Hi everyone, just joined up at the recommendation of a fellow forumite on YBW.

We (SWMBO and me) are visiting from the UK our youngest daughter who now lives in Sydney next March (2016) for about a Month. Whilst there, we would love to sail out into Sydney Harbour to see the place from a different perspective (and get some sailing in!). Before we research the usual charter choices or tourist bay trips, which TBH we don't really want as we prefer to crew, we thought we'd check to see if there were any sailors out there with a suitable vessel that fancy a jaunt around the harbour next March at some point, to show a couple of Poms the sights?

Rewards of expenses and beer are on offer

PM me if interested - thanks.

Welcome Ripster.

Pittwater is also an area to consider and we have a few Sydney siders that sail there.

Welcome. March there is a lot happening on the Harbour. Likely you will have the Sydney Harbour Regatta on and Twilight sailing is in full swing as well as the usual weekday sailing out of clubs around the harbour. Do you know what area you will be in? That will help narrow down the many options.

Most of the clubs that do Twilight sailing have a notice board for crew on which you can put your name down with your experience level 2 hours before the start and usually someone will take you out.

You may not get a job, because the skippers are mainly looking for ballast, but you can get a good view of the harbour and meet with the yachties during and after the race in the clubhouse.

Some clubs also have an online forum where you can advertise for crewing jobs.

Hope this helps.

How we sailed into Sydney Harbour
Saw an old friend but couldn't kiss her
She was lined, and I was home to the lucky land

Being from the UK you likely won't get the reference, but welcome to the forum anyway

Forget charters. Get the iconic Manly Ferry!!!!

Probably also an idea to bring the thread up again just before you get here?

Thanks to everyone for the replies so far. I guess what we are after is a friendly day sail out in the Harbour to see the sights from a different perspective and get some photos/video etc. Sure, we could take a Ferry, but as sailors, it'd be great to get some sailing in Aussie style and meet some real people. I race crew over here so know my way around a sail boat and thus can crew as well as spectate. As a reward for the skippers time and kindness, I thought maybe beer and food might be in order :) We'll be staying in Richmond where my daughter lives, so are flexible as to where we sail from - beggars can't be choosers!!
