How is the sailing club closest to you?
I had a quick squiz of the YA annual report recently, there were actually more sailing instructors registered than actual participants that completed YA conducted courses last year.
By rights finding an instructor should be the easy task. Finding one who you like unfortunately can only be done by jumping into the course. QLD Yachting would be a great start to find the clubs close by.

Nicolas,

most of the sailing clubs offer dinghy sailing lessons - check out the following dependant on your location and availability:

www.dpss.org.au
www.bss.org.au
www.rqys.com.au
www.sbsc.org.au

You most likely won't be able to learn to sail in a NS14 or 16ft skiff unless you can find someone willing to take a novice on as crew. 16ft skiffs are not beginner boats and most people won't take you out on one unless you know what you are doing - they are something you can progress up to in time.

Usually you will learn in a club boat (vagabond, pacer or similar) and then you can progress to your chosen class afterwards.

Thanks for the information!

I'll start with the dinghy course and then see what happens.
