Have to be real fast…just turned on to SBS (east coast) some movie about a sailer who strikes a container, blah, blah…Robert Redford…hope its OK (Ola Kala…all good in Greek…referring to the logs used in ship-building)
Tuned back in 20mins later…so,so,…keep watching if I've interrupted you, or maybe you're in the process of sending me a disparaging message.

Close that bloody hatch you idiot there's big waves about…and why is your boat not rocking about like crazy in the storm that has just dismasted your yacht, despite your blonde hair being blown about like crazy! Wonder if the 24hr news channel has anything but the carnage of Syria and Russia's (USSR) resurgence to offer a late-night viewer.

I watched bits of it. Aside from the Hollywood BS it was a good demonstration as to what can happen to an unprepared twit at sea. The equipment he should have had and didn't was remarkable. Not to mention other things like a HF radio and a sked to call in on. Ch 16 is not much use out in the middle of the drink. Maybe that was the movies point.

I went out to see my son-in-law's rock 'n roll band and have a bit of a knees-up.
Missus (not feeling well) stayed home and saw the film. She was shocked by the loss
of the boat, dismayed at the seemingly losing struggle against all odds. Devastated at
the tragedy of imminent drowning.......but wait......the helping hand of fate appears,
hooray he's saved.
Missus tells me it's a good idea NOT to go blue water sailing.

As you don't actually see him being rescued Samsturdy, is it a helping hand of fate, or is it the hand of God as he finally loses consciousness and drowns

Great script!

What happens when common sense and preparation are missing.

I wonder how many face palms the sailing consultant endured filming that drivel.

Lol - name of the movie is "All is Lost".

It's a great film, from a filmmaking standpoint - excellent camerawork and cinematography, but yeh - highly likely to induce comas in sailors from constant face palming.

I think my favourite booboo of his is making the very wise and informed decision of having a shave when he sees a huge storm coming, rather than bending his storm jib on.

Well, in that situation Toph, either would be a win.
