Hi Folks, I have a couple of friends that want to sail from Redcliffe to Morton Island and back, all of us own Catamarans, Beach Cats, I am a little worried that i may get stuck at Morton or even worse as the weather can change Quickly, There have been a number of post on this subject, but still have no answer. Original Trip was organised through a website for all Cats http://beachcatsaustralia.ning.com/

Hi Greg

yes, the weather can change very quickly and lump up badly on Moreton Bay, especially between Redcliffe and Moreton Island because of the huge 'paddock' of water in which to gather momentum...and thence over areas of shallow water.

The weather that would give you bother would be a westerly....obviously a blast going over...but a bugger to get back to the mainland. Westerlies, however, are usually well predicted and don't just appear out of nowhere.

Normally, it's a sail to windward going over to Moreton (unless you leave really early and make use of the land breeze if there is one), then a run home on the afternoon sea breeze.

We usually leave before dawn to avail ourselves of that land breeze because our cruising cat doesn't do windward...and also while the kids are asleep to prevent the 'I'm boreds' all the way across.

Not sure what you're actually asking though??

If you do get stuck on Moreton and need to get home, there's a number of commercial carriers that travel between Brisbane and Tangalooma. The Tangalooma Flyer and also the Mikat vehicular ferry.

There's also a National Parks campground at Tangalooma if you wanted to bring some camping stuff over....just in case. For more upmarket accommodation, the Tangalooma Resort is only a small fortune away.

Check with the events organiser to see what support they will have in place??

Hope it goes well
