Hi, i need a rough guestimate on a price of a new main sail for my new,old 21ft sloop, looking for a cruising sail with reefing points, havent bothered measuring yet but will if i have to. Price to nearest 100 would be good as i have no idea.

that really depends on how good quality you want for your sails, plus the dimensions, i have a redwitch which is around 20ft, i recently purchased a carbon mainsail for 1700.00 by UK halesy-freo, but keep in mind this is top of the range racing sail, if you want a cruising sail, you're probably going to go for a dacron sail, where do you live?
i know in perth there are heaps of sailmakers who can do any sort of sail you want, and more often than not there are smaller chains who can do cheaper sails, sacrificing effective sail shape and overall quality. Geoff Bishop at UK Halesy was more than helpfull, they offered a lot of options and advised me on the choice of sail, the top of the range people like UK halesy will ask you what sailing qualities you want from your sail and will also take into account weather helm and other steering tricks with your boat,
i hope that helps good luck

I am a bit of a fan of EBay. I have bought several headsails and sold a few. At the moment I am busily finishing off a "new" mainsail for my 26 foot yacht. I bought a mainsail off Ebay for $120. The sail was meant for a 34 foot vessel. I cut it down to my measurements, fortunately it happened to tie in with a set of reef points. I have an industrial sewing machine I use for sail repairs but a home machine will easily handle sails for a 21 footer. The sail is off a racing boat and superb quality, new it probably cost close to what I paid for my yacht! Your 21 footer may be suitable for a soling/yngling mainsail or a cut down Etchells.

Have a look at this sail on EBay Item number: 260463178304

Thanks everyone, have been keeping an eye on ebay but sail pointed out is a bit small, I am taking it to Peter green to have a look and maybe patch it up. And will get a qoute off him. He did fix one of my kites years ago and did a good job.cheers
