I'd like to start a conversation about a boat.

I'm putting an offer on a 1985 Savage Oceanic 45. Currently, near Santa Barbara, CA - She has been very well looked after but will need updates. She has the original autopilot, rigging, etc.
Obviously, it will get a survey - sea trial...possibly in a few weeks..

Does anyone here have experience sailing or handling these boats? Stories, yarns?

Never owned one or actually seen one in the flesh but it was always one of those boats I thought I would never be able to afford! I'm surprised they were still building them in 1985. That seems to be an exceptionally good buy.

Don't know the 45 but cruised in company with a 42 in 1984 . Absolutely beautiful boat center cockpit ,heaps of room and fast , we were in a Farr 11.6 and could never keep up with her , obviously she had waterline on us but I was surprised by how well she sailed . Was my dream boat back then .

I'm putting an offer on a 1985 Savage Oceanic 46. Currently, near Santa Barbara, CA - She has been very well looked after but will need updates. She has the original autopilot, rigging, etc.

Do you have anything further to offer on this or are you attempting to boost the response???

Seems like it could be acknowledgment from airjammer that the yacht is the Savage Oceanic 46 not 45. There are many web posts for both but it seems like 46 is correct. See here comment that the 46 came from the 42 with 4ft added;

And here seeming to confirm;

www.yachtandboat.com/listing/savage-oceanic-45/5124615/

Sailboatdata is usually valid;

sailboatdata.com/sailboat/oceanic-46-aus/

Not sure of this but similar;

sailboat.guide/aus/oceanic-46

Numerous yachts are on the web with seemingly different window numbers but some photos are not all that clear.

Whatever they seem like a top yacht all round. After survey (hopefully clear....just with normal age issues including rigging), new standing rigging is seemingly needed as priority one, also for insurance..........

Some of the other sister boats have had osmosis to the extent a gel coat shave was required. Worthwhile investigating if this was/is the case with the boat in question.

The one I'm looking into is actually a Savage Oceanic 46

Listed on Yacht World as a 45.
