Hi all. I am seeking first hand information on the above, should some of the 'Salts' around here know much about these.
I have a Schatz Midi-Mariner ships clock and a Barometer which have been lying around forgotten for a long time (over 20 years for my part).Total age of items is unknown.
The glass on both is 4inch/100mm diameter with brass outer bodies. The Barometer in particular does not have a model on the face, other than the Schatz name and the words compensated precision barometer. Both are West German made as indicated on the lower portion of the face.
If they are in fact good quality and suitable for marine use, I wish to mount them both on my newbuild tugboat.
Lastly, are there competent agencies on the east coast capable of calibrating such items with reasonable care?
Sorry for no pictures at this point, as I hopeless on downloading that kind of stuff.
Regards-C.R.

Any competent watch maker can clean and regulate your clock. As for the barometer being accurate, just exactly how accurate do you want it? The most you would want out of your barometer is to indicate change and rate of change, it doesn't really matter if you are out by a ****teenth of an inch of mercury or hectopascals ..... or whatever the hell they are using this week.

My wife used to sell these all the time in the jewelry shop. She would ring the met office at HMAS Albatross [naval air station close by] and get the current pressure and adjust the barometer to suit. This is of course not perfectly accurate and it does not have to be but it impressed the punters.
Set the pressure in the ball park. Its the needle movement that's of concern.
