i just have had 50kgs of barnacles on the bottom f the keel. Not much on the hull apart from slime really but it's all off including a round hole about half the size of a 5 cent piece. I was scraping and this small piece chipped off at the very top of the keel. My hull is black and this exposed white. It's probably 3mm into the hull/keel I'm a bit concerned and now thinking of slipping sooner rather than later. the keel is moulded into the hull shape on the Tophat and this little chip off is right at the top of the keel before the curve changes into hull. should I be concerned or just she'll be right mate? im gonna try and get to the Ulladulla slip possibly over Xmas holidays as I'll be down that way. Whats the best way to repair this? Epoxy kit ok?
Break off a suitable amount and knead it in your fingers. You can do it snorkeling but a lot easier with a hookah. Just jam it in the hole and the water will be forced out. Goes off fairly fast so don't mess about. It's a temporary fix so you will have to replace in the next 20 years or so.
Knead it is fantasic stuff I use it all the time. I have not done a water fix before but you are supposed to be able to. Used to use it on my tufflite epoxy surfboards. Just need to have a roughish surface to get it to bond.

It does work in water but not if there is any sort of pressure pushing it away. I've used it for old watertanks, it works inside the tank but not outside. It may help repair a holed hull from the outside but not the inside.
It sounds like it may be an osmosis blister. If it is, it will be ok till you slip at Christmas time. Then have someone who knows have a look at it while it is out of the water. Just bogging an osmosis blister is not a good fix
Brllliant! once again some great advice!!! was gonna call into greenwell in a few weeks but ive had to call jervis off for a xmas holiday due to a sick, spolied cat. 8k spent and counting. shes a family member though and much loved...in hospital now in icu so will just have to be close to syd. pittwater and bundeena instead of jb....i was soooo looking forward to going down there and ive been prepping the boat mostly for whits, but also for JB this xmas!!!! possibly might look at a mooring in greenwell and come and go. we will see. ill contact you on the greenwell yachts fb page if so.
