I have the option to buy a 2nd hand seiwa marlin 15 inch multifunction navigation station at a great price. What should i look out for with these units? Any advise etc?..........
It does not come with a transducer but Ch Smith Marine here in Melbourne has in stock the full list of options for this unit with plastic or bronze transducers so getting one won't be a problem.
Reading the user manual, they use C-Card cartridges for the area you are navagating so i assume it will come with these for vic and tas and hopefully east coast as well. I will check this before purchase.

I had a Seiwa 12 inch plotter for a few years with the C card cartridge. It had a track ball alongside the keyboard. The keyboard had a membrane behind it to keep moisture out but the trackball did not. Went through a couple of boards which for some reason were mounted straight under the trackball. I'm sure they are much better now. If I recall correctly they were Italian designed and built in Japan. Probably Chinese built now and much better for it. Mine came from a trawler and he sold it because it was limited by the number of waypoints it could handle. I eventually ****binned it and switched to a HP Compac work station for half the price of a new board.
