Hi all I've just got approval for a bouy mooring in cabbage tree creek, I got in touch with guy who owns the tackle and hes happy to let it go for a carton, problem is at low tide its 1metre and my draft is 1.4, will that damage my boat if it sits on the bottom, its a fin keel and there is a fore and aft bouy tackle so boat wont swing around
its two train wheels at front and 1 at back

It is more than likely mud in Cabbage Tre Creek so it will be fine. Loosing a bit of antifouling off the keel will not be a problem. Most yachts in Moreton Bay have no antifouling left on the bottom of their keels.

Your only allowed 48 hours and the locals are not keen on boats being there like the Mooloobar locals and are quick to contact the authorities once you go over that, so I am surprised you have not had a call. Over the last couple of months they have hunted almost all the boats that were anchored in the bay between Newport and Scarborough. Cabbage Tree Creek should be a good mooring for you with a lot better sailing waters at close at hand. I might see you out at the start of the Brisbane race start If your there.

cabbage tree creek has been my home last 15 years i am assuming your mooring will be just upstream from the trawlers most yachts on this reach sit on the bottom at low tide you will need about 1/4 tide to exit or enter the creek you will pick up some barnnies on the bottom of the keel due to the mud stopping the antifoul working check the mooring tacker as the creek runs very hard in a flood (last year this time was a record flood and was clocked at 12 knots at qcyc) its a great place to sail from with a history of yachting going back 150 years
the old guys on the creek tell me it was white sand downstream and gravel upstream where i am till the early sixtys development at the headwaters has meant topsoil deposited on the banks causing mangrove growth and silting up of the creek
