One of the hardest things to do is keep your ego in check. Nothing wrong with having a healthy ego but don't let it become your weakness as soon as it gets knocked

You know chucking the towel in, in a dramatic way publically gives you little credit in the future MB. You have crossed the line of no return and if you come back then people will think you are spineless. Whatever the reason is why sink so low to let a few words and anonymous faces sting your feelings? People have very different views in the world and there will always be one person who never likes you. Why let that person ruin your fun?

I agree with J5. Just do what makes life fun and enjoyable.

I think that's unduly harsh criticism MB. There are 50 threads on the front page, 2 are non sailing related, that's about 4% non sailing related topics. That's actually pretty remarkable.
It's not good form for one to run around a yacht club telling people to keep their conversations to sailing, nor should one do the same thing here, if you don't like it just don't read it. Engaging with different sailors is one of life's precious gifts, them having opinions or a story on something random is something I can not only live with, I most often actually enjoy reading (sans politics and religion, that's another story).

Haven't read the Greta thread at all as there is simply no point as I know it will make me annoyed, so I don't read it!
Sailing Anarchy and pretty much any other forum from a broad cross section of the community is the same.
In fact, if a thread bothers you enough to leave, how do you leave the house at all?!

Just read a pm from Shaggy that made me realise my above post was a bit rude .
I apologise especially as this forum has helped me get through the worst three years of my seventy six .( Cost me a few quid along the way as well, boat $) . I have gone from prostate cancer op. to Temporal Artritis which treatment to save eyesight and life was mega dosages of immune suppressants for two years whose side effects have been ,loss of bone and muscle density , paper thin skin, shingles, blocked heart artery( stent) ,internal bleeding ,scarring of lungs and the list goes on . Just when I thought I was out of the woods feeling like a new man after intensive gym. three weeks ago a bilateral inguinal hernia op.
So thanks everyone keeping me interested in what I love most.

Reading between the lines I think MB has been ready to back off for a little while now. Putting his boat
up for sale is an indication that a lifestyle change is needed and good luck to him on that, if he feels like
he's stagnated then he has to move on, perhaps he can move over to thrashing around in his TR6 and
leave the endless boat maintenance behind. The Greta Thunberg thing could just be the last straw.

access to someone as knowledgeable as you. Good luck with whatever you choose to do.

I think there is a warning here for the administrators. Don't let posts on a sailing forum stray too far away from the core subject especially into areas where personal jibes are common. Matters of belief such as politics and religion belong elsewhere. I rarely look at Sailing Anarchy because of the clutter of self aggrandisement, personal abuse etc. However, I note they separate topics like Greta and Brexit to make it easy for those who do not wish to go there.

This forum is amazing and the information traded if very valuable. I don't post much and I don't read anything that doesn't interest me.
Your passive-aggressive exit is classic of persons not happy with the way some forums trend.
If you don't like it don't read it.
The forum will be porer for your departure as your input is valued as is input from others.

I really only flick over the sailing page, and after working all day have no inclination being drawn into arguments over stuff you really have no control over.
Thanks for the posts and advice given by you MB, and others who have given your collective experiences.
My posts are comparatively few,but I've gleaned some good tips for you all, and hopefully been able to contribute something back in a small way.
Hope MB and everyone gets some time onboard over the christmas break.

So true fish monkey . This post was started as a goodbye / he's had enough type thread. It was dormant and fading into the depths of the web ( as it should ) . Until frant decided to bring the goodbye post back to life . And have a final dig at some sections of the communities. My suggestions to frant are fair and reasonable in the circumstances.

The point Sands is that that one cannot make a political post without expecting a response. Mine was that there are some grumpy old right wing intolerant males on the forum. You of course had to respond with a call of wannabe left wing muckracker! If you want the thread to fade away don't insist on the last barb! Your challenge is to respectfully accept my opinion on climate change without resource to name calling.

So you can use name calling but the other side must be respectful of your opinion and not use name calling?
