Hi all
we have a Crowther Eureka 32 with a beam of about 15-16ft.
At the moment, she's powered with a clapped out 15hp Isuzu diesel to Volvo sterndrive legs. Hopeless......cavitates like crazy,,,motor's almost dead.
A friend suggested we instal twin steerable outboards just forward of the point of pivot, however, I'm wondering with such a skinny hull with potentially only a metre between outboard legs, whether there is any worth installing twins rather than just a bigger single?????
Any advice???????
Ok I'll bite. There is a new cat launched here in my home port in the last few months. I think its 38 foot, very impressive foam glass construction. It has two 9 hp sail outboard motors mounted in the rear deck area probably 12 feet from the stern. It motors easily at about 10 knots and is very quiet. It also manoeuvres exceptionally well due to the twin motors and of course it has two sets of power generators for 12 volts, plus the usual solar panels. This is a fairly wide vessel, the motors are probably 10' apart. It will be up your way shortly.
I would favour two motors.
