Its been a little while since I was a regular poster but I have been busy. Last year we swapped out of our old Cole Contessa and bought a Cole Mutiny 28 in schmick condition. We also took the chance to move from Sydney Harbour up onto the Hawkesbury and now hang out of Brooklyn. We are just loving our sailing life up there with quiet winter days where you get the place to yourself.
But one of the best things we did was to join up to Small Yacht Cruising Club of Pittwater. We were looking for a sailing club that was purely a social group that we could get out and sail with (not focussed on racing) and we truly found it. For less than the cost of an annual outboard service you get access to a weathered sailing community, half a dozen club moorings, a planned monthly club overnight sail up, informal gatherings where there is always another club member on the water to lunch with and several land-based socials across the year for just a good old natter. The club turns 50 next month which is a testament to its winning formula. The club is limited to 50 boats but right now it has a few vacancies so if you think this might work for you, reach out or jump on the club's website sycc.au and drop your details into the membership page. Small might be a bit misleading. Its a small club but welcomes vessels up to and including 46'. Its given us the focus we didn't have previously to get out and make the most of our lovely new boat.
