Yachts traversing Sydney's Spit Bridge are becoming increasingly unpopular but the Netherlands seems to have a good answer by way of the water bridge in this picture. www.smh.com.au/national/traffic-nightmare-how-a-single-boat-can-paralyse-one-of-sydney-s-busiest-roads-20210205-p56zsb.html

Best way to pay for it. It is a local asset so I can't see why the taxpayers in Grafton (or Leichhardt for that matter) should fund it.
The number of bridge openings has reduced so much over the last 30 years or so it caused me not to put my boat in Middle Harbour. With the development on the northern beaches they will need to do something. Raising the bridge might be the easiest using the high ground to the north to get the clearance..

years ago (like last century) a mate who was a property developer had the solution to the spit bridge

a high level bridge with a row of penthouse apartment slung underneath. sale of the apartments would pay for the cost of the bridge.

land at ground level - which now a disaster of a 6 lane highway - would become parkland, with some minor access roads and parking for the marine business

but too sensible for our polies to ever do

cheers,

Latest news is a proposed tunnel under Middle Harbour. Back in the 70s there was going to be a bridge from Middle Head? across to Seaforth. It was part of what is called the "Warringah Expressway " but was canned when the well healed landowners objected. Now they are objecting to dredging and tunnel vents.

There was talk, during the last lock down on the Northern Beaches, of raising the Spit Bridge and leaving it up. So no one could get in or out. A boom gate at Roseville and another at Mona Vale Road and we could secede from NSW completely..... :-)
