I havn't seen much written about this topic for the enthusiastic racers out there and wondered how much corporate knowledge was out there on the forum.
Just wondering if people have tips or things they know work when it comes to rig tuning. Some stuff that i have herd of includes
1.for strong winds.. reduce your Rake by 2/3 (non running back stay)
2.How much prebend do you need to dial in ie: how do I calculate it given the sail or what it looks like in the air??
3.Have the rig "loose" enough so that in gusts you can leave the mainsheet on hard when going to wind and getting knocked and the rig will bend back to exhaust the top of the main? I have tried it with a tight rig and it didn't work but how loose is loose?

Who told you to reduce the rake in stronge breeze? in skiffs in the stronger breeze you want more rake, which lets tension off the leach letting the wind out of the sail smoother and quicker, reducing the power.
in you are heavily over powerd you want the sails to be flat. (for the main sail) this is done by first cranking the cunningham, which moves the draft (the deapest point in the sail) forward, freeing up the leach, then pull on the vang to further flatten the sail, then pull on some outhall to flatten the foot of the sail. however this is only good for sailing up wind, for reaching and running it is best to let most of it all off, to alow the top of the main to twist.
As for the jib, you will need to move the jib cars back a fair bit, this puts a twist in the jib freeing up the top section letting the air out further, and opening the gap between the main and the jib, which again alows the wind to run smoother through the rig. you can also move the jib cars outward but i dont think many sport boats have those sorts of jib cars.
(once again this is in skiffs, could be different in sport boats(that said i dont see why it would be))
Hope this helps.

One of the guys who owns a Thommo 750 sailing out of South Perth is on the SailingAnarchy forums (www.sailinganarchy.com/forums)
He would be best to speak to regarding rig set up.
Were in the sailing forums and it is called West Australian Sailing.
