Hi there. I have a Nacra 5.0 and only realised how tall the rig is when I had to stand the mast. I just can't seem to do it safely with two people...last time but for herniacal (is that a word) exertion I would have dropped it on my car. The only technical approach I have tried is a lanyard on the forestay. Anyone got a procedure I can use? Mike

Hey there bananas,
1, place the mast foot over the front beam with the mast tip pointed directly behind your boat.
2, attach both side stays
3, get one person to take 2 trapeze wires and stand in front of your front beam
4, the other person should pick up the mast tip and slowly walk the mast upright.
5, the person with the trapeze wires can guide the foot of the mast onto its base
6, when the person walking the mast up gets to the rear beam the person with the trapeze wires can start taking some weight. This will assist the walker to step up onto the tramp.
7, once the walker gets the mast to an upright position it will be easy to hold there until the person with the trapeze wires attaches the forstay to the bridle.

I hope this made sense.
If not let me know and we can chat.

Hi Mike,

The best website for setup and tuning guides for all nacra's is www.goosemarine.com.au (the owner of this site is also the WA Nacra Dealer), if you go to the articles section theres a nacra assembly manual (original), in there is a step by step guide to raising and lowering the mast with pictures etc...

If you would like some setup tips or even some one to show you how to set the boat up, come down to koombana bay sailing club (bunbury) on race day and one of the nacra guys can help you. Koombana Bay Sailing Club is the home of NACRA in WA with 8 boats racing there.

If you have any questions contact Gary Gornall; [email protected]

Hope this helps,

hi mike only thing to had to tornado 301 is guy with trap wires should put foot on mast step if you dont have safty pin on mast step the mast at 90 deg .
also if you do not have third person to walk mast up to guy on tramp you can use your trailer mast rack to give you better angle to start lift.

Fellas your advice and referrals to Goosemarine have helped. I have a handle on it I think. It's the step up from the "back pusher" to the "tramp lifter" that had me beat.

On the invite to Koombana Bat SC is appreciated but the business of life will keep me away for a while. Thanks for the responses! Mike
