I removed my acrylic windows to get new ones cut. I taped up the openings with plastic and duct tape due to that last ECL.

Anyways, the job is done but i have the sticky residual from the duct tape all over my gelcoat.

If anyone has experience with this, I love to know the best way to get it cleaned up.

WD40 is good for some sticky stuff

I am sure turps will dissolve it.

With that kind of thing I just go up the scale of solvents.

Metho, turps, thinners (various), methyl ethyl ketone, acetone etc. As long as the solvent will not attack the base ie gelcoat, you should be right.

If you only need a short time you could use the painters tape that doesn't leave a residual

I'm installing the port side windows over the next few days and won't need to tape up at all

I used the 3m tape/sika method and it looks great

Pleas please please be careful of the sika method. I had some windows put in by professionals, proper prep and primer, met him down the street 9 months later and he said "Those windows fallen out yet" - I thought he was joking, but no, a couple of months later they all started to quite literally fall out. Lincoln Sentry have the best system, 3m tape and structural silicone, lasts forever.

Eucalyptus oil works great.

yep used the 2.1mm thick 3m tape plus the sika

I left masking tape on the boot line of a hull until the weather made it fall off. The local panel beater/spraypainter was horrified when he saw bits of old tape flapping in the breeze. He told me that the glue from the tape would be a pain in the butt to remove and recommended Xylene to remove the glue residue. I didn't worry about it and in a few months time (in Summer) the residue just powdered up and brushed off
I did use Goof Off ( from Bunnings) to remove all the contact cement glue that plagued the inside of my hull from the 80's style carpet and since I have used it to remove masking tape glue . The product seems to work best if applied to an area and worked before it evaporates.
