Hi,

has as anyone been through swansea channel recently and how was the depth?

We are planning a trip to Pitwater / Cowan creek around the 12th April. The original plan was to go to Newcastle over Easter when there are 1.6 m tides during the day. We would then be able to plan the trip to Pitwater without being limited by tides in the channel. The weather over Easter does not look good so we may need to leave the lake around the 12th, when the daytime high tides are around 1.3 m. I am very wary of the channel so unwilling to travel at night.

thanks
Franrick

Hi LMY,
I am sitting in Swansea Channel as I write this.
The channel was recently dredged, finishing in Febuary this year.
I have been in and out of the lake several times in the last five months and there was always plenty of water.
I draw 5ft.
These days you call Marine Rescue Lake Macquarie to book the opening of the bridge.
Since the dredging of the channel you could use the channel on a high or low tide unless you have a huge draught.
Happy sailig.

Franrik,

thanks for for the information and good to hear that the depth is still there after the dredging. It is a nice wet evening to be spending on a mooring in the channel. Have a good trip tomorrow, where ever you are going.

Hi Franrick,

I was just looking at you bio photo and am wondering if you boat has been moored at Wyee Point marina for the last few months. If that is the case then we have been neighbours. My boat is the cavalier 37 on the southern arm of the marina.

regards
Franrick

Hi mate,
Yes, that was my boat at Wyee Point. I usually leave it there while I return to Queensland. I remember the Cav being there. I always liked the Cavs.
We are heading north to Townsville (home) for the winter but after waking up this morning decided to come into the lake instead of sailing in this lovely weather.
cheers, Rick.
