Chris Sinclair has one. I sailed it to and from Pittwater years ago.
The Swanson 32 has a timber core deck which is a well known weakness often requiring a complete new deck. I suspect this one is good for scrap and why it is on Grays.

Engine looks to be a Yanmar 3GMD 20hp, so probably dates from the early 80's. Solid engines, but I suspect it may be past the point of a rebuild.

Top sides do not the have gunwale stip broken and hanging off the side and my BUKH 20 doesn't look like it has been used as a mooring prior to installation. Admittedly it does need a bottom scrub and the topsides/cockpit need sanding and a new coat of paint though.

That is a lovely boat Stuart. You forgot to mention the mainsail is brand new. The sugar scoop is also a good selling point! The one the MSB is selling is showing signs of neglect and I'm a little suspicious of the stain around the cockpit. The engine has some rust but at least it's a modern Yanmar and not the horizontal Yanmar that seems to be common in early Swanson 32's. The winch layout, lazyjacks and stack pack, furler etc indicates to me it's been someones pride and joy at some time and would cost very little to make into a coastal cruiser again.

It's been here for a few years now. when it arrived it was called Magic Carpet.

Swansons original design had Oregon laminated deck beams with ply dynal sheathed as the deck .
the problem wasn't the deck structure ,it was when holes where drilled through the deck and the holes weren't sealed properly water would enter the laminate and that was the start of the problem with rot
Swanson also liked oregon masts ?

Gave Magic Carpet a bottom scrub this afternoon so the new owner can sail her down to Batemans Bay. Good coverage of shell all over and a few clumps of cungevoi the size of 2 gallon buckets! Hard yackka for an old bloke in deep water. Should have moved in close to shore so I can stand on the bottom.
I had forgotten how nice that boat is inside Stuart. I have never seen any other Swanson 32 with that layout but that is really nice. He certainly got excellent value for money!

I am sorry you were the one to have to give it a scrape Ramona. It was, I am embarressed to say a bit neglected of late. It is nice down below and I was more interested in it going to someone who would put in a bit of effort rather than top dollar. The new owner seemed to have the inclination and the time to bring her back to her best.

Allan, I would suggest moving your boat in close right at the bottom of the tide and doing the work then. As the tide comes in you have plenty of clearance and this avoids embarrassment!

This is rather sad to see. Must be a story behind this one. Name sounds familiar. Needs a bit of teak scarfed in on a bit of the gunwale. "Soft" spot inside the windows but an easy boat to tidy up. Yanmar looks reasonable. Encapsulated lead keel in a fibreglass hull.
