The takacat is taken off the Thundercat design but with a few alterations. The standard Thundercat design has a carbon or glass nosecone and no transom to speak off. Its just a frame. Not much info on these yet over here even within the Thundercat family. There are a few Chinese cats been imported by some individuals which seem to be running ok. I did not notice on the Takacat site what material they are using. Hypalon is the better material used by the more established manufacturers.
Yeah these are PVC but I just can't seem to get any info from people that own one, saying that though, I bit the bullet and bout a Highfield RIB and am very happy with it as I know they've got a pretty good name.
I own one, the takacat lite. the build quality is excellent, two seasons, a lot of use, I put a 6hp Yamaha on it, planes well with one person.
I use it for spearfishing, so I pack a lot of gear in it, if you don't need ultra portability I recommend a hard bottom. From my shopping, the quality is far superior to a Saturn, the stability is much better than a normal RIB. the big thing for me is that its really easy to slide back up on it from the water. Also the support at Takacat has been excellent. If you are going to get a motor, ask them for all the origin and import docs so you can register it
