Can anyone share their thoughts on the current and short term (the next week to 10 days) status of the Tamar river flow. Right now it's a raging torrent where the Esk rivers meet but I'm not sure what it looks like further down stream. Do any locals have an idea what to expect in the next week in regards to being able to get a vessel up to sea port? Ie. Would you expect the water current to drop pretty quickly to a level where it's navigable quickly or would this flow (or smaller but still in non-navigable flow) to be hanging around for a while? Obviously it depends on the rainfall but I'm just trying to plan on getting a boat up from Hobart in the next week. Any general comments appreciated also. Cheers gents... (specifically not gender nutral after some of the previous posts lol)

Hey mate,

The two biggest issues you will have getting up to Seaport are pushing the current and logs/debris.

The Trevallyn Dam is currently dropping about 100mm oper hour and is 3.72m above the spill level so that's only 37 hours to get down although once it gets under a metre or so the flows are alot less.

So although the current flow is about 8 knots past my work i would expect it to be less than 3 knots by the weekend.

Now the logs are a much bigger issue next week becasue all the high tides next week are before 10 am of after 7pm, meaning you will have to traverse some of the river in the dark and with the size of some of the logs I've seen I would be giving that a miss.

Our boat is down at Beauty Point (took down from Launceston on Monday arvo) currently and we will not be bringing back up before next weekend.

Yeah as long as it's daylight.

With a normal South Esk flood there is a fair few logs but with this North Esk flood there was a massive ammount of logs, pallets etc.

I'd talk to Tamar YC and stay at the Marina at BP until you get a high tide here after 12pm.
