They are what is called a 'safety pin' shackle.

The reason they use them is where shackles normally rust away first is on the thread of the pin, causing the pin to be loose and only held in by the seizing wire. Safety pins are better but a fair bit more expensive.

We find when we check our mooring every 2 years we change the shackles anyway.

The problem I see there is that the bolts, nuts and pins appear to be stainless. That is going to cause electrolysis degrading the chain, shackles and swivel.

yeah they could be SS, I thought they might be high tensile steel, maybe I should check
