I have just installed ultrasonic antifoul on 30ft steel ketch which is moored in Stieglitz passage southern Moreton Bay. This has a reputation of being a breeding ground for super aggressive barnacles.

The owner of Clean a Boat have been extremely helpful with regular follow up and advice. Installation is easy and we look forward to not slipping every 12 months.

More updates in 3 months

I think I would have a steel boat out of the water at least every twelve months!

We are fortunate with a bilge keel we are able to check things out on a regular basis by careening. The thing we look forward to is not scraping barnacles and growth off for longer periods. last slipping 3 months ago we were struggling with 11/2 inch thick growth over 80% of the hull. repainting the antifoul every 2/3 years is no issue.

Certainly do, we correspond regularly. He was one of the few RP's to make aircrew, these days they seem to take anybody, there is even a few females.
Probably see him in a few weeks when we are in Adelaide next.

Puffwheat - I'd be interested in hearing the results when you next slip.

I've heard mixed stories about whether ultra-sonic anti-fouling does any good.

Graham, Tiddly Thomas, I remember a crewie by the name of Thomas. Give me some clues, I don't recall the Tiddly nickname.

Terry Thomas, you flew with him. He did the first two Rimpacs and paid off. Went to Adelaide and worked in a funeral parlour then customs and finished up as a fireman. We did the OFS on Trackers together.

Do you have a crew lined up for Lord Howe? Young bloke here, about 35 with the concrete Hartley RORC 38 might be interested, I will ask him.
Just to get back on subject a little, his boat has not been slipped for two years and the prop is dead clean and shiny bronze! He certainly does not have ultra sonic or snake oil. Actually he does not even have electricity on at his house!

I do remember Terry. Good bloke, paid off about 1975/76 as a kellick I think or did he get a 2nd hook.

I have an ex O boat skipper lined upfor Lord Howe but I am considering a 3rd person onboard. Give him my mobile number if he is interested. Departure from Pittwater will be about 10-12 November. Return about 24 Nov.
