Its the same boat name "Clair de Lune"

Flatrock is pretty close to shore wonder why they set off the life raft. Tender probably would have been easier?

anyone know if the rock they hit was marked as a hazard on the charts or on the nav. equipment they were using, if it was then it's bad seamanship, if not then just terrible luck.

Flat Rock is will marked and will known. No excuses, day or night.

Thank you, I've never sailed N. Straddy so didn't know definitely bad seamanship then.

It is disappointing how quick the judges are - repeatedly - in their condemnation without the full knowledge of the incident.

This sloppy criticism is akin to the sloppy journalism mentioned above.

What happened to the "giving one the benefit of the doubt" principle?

even if it's the same boat, it's not the same people involved...

Few points to make:

The two incidents, obviously involving two different vessels - one is white decked while the other is a classic looking dark timber decked boat - bearing the same name must be a freak occurrence. (better look out if your yacht's name is the same, it might be endemic)

Why was the raft launched in the first place? There is a good size inflatable floating around.

Why was the raft launched on the windward side? Wonder how the sharp edges on the bow did not hole the raft being tossed around by the waves like it was.

Why was the raft not double tethered?

While the young chap was wearing a MaeWest type "lifesaver" on the top of his backpack the old chap only had a murderous backpack on his person. Had he fallen into the water while struggling with the waves getting on the raft, his backpack would have been his death.

I hope, for his sake, he had a valid insurance.
