What length rode should be deployed when using a sea anchor. I would assume it has a correlation to the distance between the crests of waves. When the seas are confused as a I have seen before,what length would then be required.
Also I have heard that chafing can be a big issue and it may be necessary to pay out a little more every couple of hours.
Has any one on this forum had much to do with these anchors

you should nave 150 to 200m or more of nylon or polyester line with some strech in it,if it is threaded through some heavy p[astic hose which is lashed over the bow roller it will protect against chafe but it still needs to be moniitored and maybe let out. The line can also be shackled to your anchor chain which wouid then go over the bow roller. Coppins seaanchors have a lot of info on the net. I have used one once andit worked well but was hard to retrieve the next day without an anchor winch. You need to hold/ lock your rudder central as the boat can get pushed backwards by waves,.The bigger the waves are the more rode you need out.

Yes, drogues (JSD or otherwise) have the added advantage of being useful for emergency steering, not just slowing down your vessel.

Yes I have a drogue, I think it would be good for emergency steering but I don't think it would do much tied off the bow.
Is the Jordan drogue bigger than other drogue a??

The topic of heavy weather survival techniques is extremely complicated, as both the sea conditions and the boat design have huge influences. However a common thread is the turbulant slick effect up-weather from the boat, limiting the chance of waves breaking on the boat. Many experts promote trying to stay hove to with a scrap of sail up, for as long as possible.
The Jordan multi parachute drogue also seems to be pretty good, as it adds to the slick effect.
