The gx2200e is a radio transceiver but an ais receiver only.
www.whitworths.com.au/standard-horizon-gx2200e-fixed-mount-vhf-with-built-in-ais-gps-receiverI have used one and it was a useful bit of kit. You can set up an audible alarm perimeter for constant monitoring. Handy to identify location and direction of ferries, commercial boats and anyone else who has their transceiver on, but obviously doesn't diminish the importance of being on watch.
Think about where you would be locating the unit. If you can't see the screen from your steering station, you have to leave the cockpit to see where the identified vessel is. I can't recall if there's potential to link the radio with another screen.
Its a good radio, and also provides a backup gps.
