There is a 8 month or so time you can stay in one state before transferring. If your rego is addressed to the original state and current it won't be a problem.

You might get away with what southace is saying but I would not count on it. Boat registration like car registration is administered by the same department in Queensland which is Dept. Transport and Main Roads.

They like their revenue particularly as past Labor governments and the present Labor government in Queensland are more skill full at sending the state into debt than they are at anything else. Possibly the above named department is their biggest earner.

Make no mistake. The Queensland Boating and Fisheries Patrol people are not friendly. They will fine your arse any chance they get.

Queensland registration for my 30 ft yacht is circa $300. You have to ask yourself the question "Is NSW registration so much cheaper or better to be worth risking a $300 fine?"
