I was in Berry (NSW) briefly on Sunday afternoon and parked by a really nice looking boat that I think was probably a single hander (annoyingly I didn't take a photo) but really keen to find out what it was.

It was a reasonable size single hander, with what looked like a very low boom attachment on the mast and an open transom. It looked like an RS Vario, however, I wasn't aware that RS Varios were available in Australia? Any thoughts on what it might be?

Probably one of the entrants in The Jervis Bay regatta on there way home. Check out there web page for results when they get around to it. I was on the beach briefly on Saturday and there was one of those small dish like boats on a trolley. Most of the entrants were Spirals, about 35 of them, 8 Finns, Contender, Lightweight Sharpie and a few NS14s and Tasars, about 70 all up. My son raced his Finn there so I'll check with him whether it was a RS Vario or not. I did read the brand name on the dish but immediately forgot.

No RS Vario's at the JB event though my son said there were several flash open transom NS14's that could be confused with a Vario.

Yep, I think that might be what it was! Guess I was a bit optimistic thinking it was a big single hander. Oh well!

There is or was a group of people in Sydney sailing NS14's as single handers. No jib and the mast moved forward slightly. They came down to Nowra a few years ago and raced us locals in the annual marathon. We had 4 Finns at the time and they seemed as fast though the layout was limiting. Good use of slightly out of date NS14's though.
