Hi Everyone

Ive just bought a Halvorsen and Gowland 31 masthead sloop. My partner and I are very excited to get her out and sailing.

For now, we are having some issues with the wind gen. Its an Air X Marine which was purchased sometime between 2008 and 2013. Its connected to our start battery but can also power the house batteries through an isolation switch.

At the moment, it only pumps a max 5amps, which we observed in 25-30kts. On a windy day we pump in about 0.4V into the single wet cell deep cycle starter. The blades are plastic and are pretty scratched up. They need replacing or a could have a go at sanding them back a bit. there doesnt seem to be aby play in the rotor, but there is some vibration through the hull during high load periods. The LEDs work as indicated in the manual when shiftin from bulk load to float load.

Any help and advice would be incredible

Thanks

I wouldn't start with the blades if they are whizzing round , I would look at the wiring first. You can get up graded carbon fibre hi tech silent blade up grades for that model but if your only producing 0.4 volt on a windy day something is wrong in the electrics. I have met Trevor Gowland and lars halvosen both respected shipwrights so you should have a well built hull.

Thanks saltiest. I was looking them up and the company collapsed in 2013 but I've sent a message to the new manufacturer primus windpower do you have a contact for the right people?

Hi, can't help with the windmill, but congrats on the boat. A friend has one in Cronulla, sails really well and is a great all rounder, he has cruised it to the whitsundays and to Tasmania, a great boat.

5A is not that bad , considering your bat. are not discharged.
If 0.4 volts is above battery nominal voltage, that would be ok too.
Should be more amps coming, but there is build in regulation and troubleshooting is bit more difficult.
In mean time disconnect isolation, and charge bet. Individually,
that help a lot.
give us a voltage reading bat. without gen. and with amp. Flowing in.
