Any ideas where I would find some decorative rail similar to this? Probably need a bit less than 3 metres.

I've bought it on eBay. It's called pinrail, not sure if there's any advertised there at the moment.

i think they are more commonly referred to as "galley" or "gallery" rails; and the turned pins are "galley" or "gallery" spindles...

I located a mob in NZ who sold (iirc) 5 foot lengths, will try and find the link for you.

I need some too but decided I will buy the pins and make my own as I want a longer piece.

Cheers, Graeme

if you wanna DIY, here is one place that sells the spindles:

Was it Fosters? fostersshipchandlery.co.nz/products/teak-pin-rail-edge-trim-l-type
They look to be the same. Bit pricey, but I cant find anyone in Australia stocking them. Quite a few in the US stock it (2 brands Whitecap and AFI Seateak) but none ship to Australia (that I have found so far). And that would be hugely expensive, although going across the ditch may not be much cheaper.

Thanks for the link Fishmonkey, although they are pine and a different shape. But perhaps I can build it myself as the L-type teak rails are available retail at Whitworths etc using those spindles.

Yes, Fosters looks like the one I looked at. They sure are expensive. That, plus having some nice Iroko I can use for the rails is why I plan to DIY.

EC, I don't know if they are still operating but there was a company called Caporn here in Sydney and they
dealt in marine timber products. They weren't cheap either.

Sam, I was sure they were in Brookvale, but can't find them anymore.
Will try Sydney Wood Industries in Mona Vale, perhaps they can point me in the right direction.

I was referred to Caporn some time ago, only to learn they have long since shut up shop.
