Just looking through Afloat and had a look at Yachthub etc on the weekend. Is it my imagination or are yacht asking prices rising.
Eg Compass 29 $30K, Cav 32 $52K, Kaufman 30 $48K, Swanson 31 $49.5K.

I was checking yachthub a couple of days ago. I was amazed at the number of boats just sold. The ones that sold were well priced though, some there will never sell. Cav 32 in the afloat magazine is still for sale for 52 thousand, how long is it now, 5 years?.

Ramona, Interesting what you say about the Cav. There was one on Yachthub I looked at last year. It was very well presented, fully equipped and well set up. It had the NZ rig and not the Aussie rig. (NZ rig is a little taller and used on the NZ boats before the molds were shipped to Aus after Piggy Muldoon single handedly stuffed the boat building industry in NZ in the 70's)
I would have bought it but someone else came up with the asking price while I was procrastinating. Asking price was 34k and a bargain. Some people just put to much on the purchase price hoping someone will just fall in love with the boat.

For very late model yachts, I think the falling dollar argument holds true.

For older yachts, I think it could be record low interest rates that might be spurring the market. Low interest rates are reflective of a weak economy, but if you feel pretty secure in your income, why not dip into that cheap mortgage or bank deposits that are going nowhere, and spend just a bit on something you've really wanted?

Another factor could be the rapidly increasing retiring population, probably quite a few that want to get a yacht, but not spend too much of their retirement income?

No signs the economy is about to change any time soon!

Possibly the reason for an apparent general rise in yacht SALE prices (not list prices) is that most of the dungers have been taken out of the market by the desperates and are now languishing in a different backwater from the one in which they were bought.

If that is the case then most likely the general standard of yachts on offer is higher.

There is always the odd genuine bargain about. Whether these examples below are bargains or not is open to conjecture.

This one looks good and is a very similar style of yacht to my Lotus 9.2. Read the blurb. quite interesting.

This one has been for sale for a while. I rang this guy up over a year ago when I think he was asking a bit more money. My first two yachts were Spencers. A Javelin 14 ft skiff and an Adrian 24 ft keeler. Spencer yachts are great.

I don't know how that works but that was them but there were six.

The Kan Walker, John Spencer and Peter Joubert yachts look to be the best of them to me.

"Magic Dragon" is an exceptional buy. Needs two speed self tailing winches and it would make an ideal retirement vessel.

Price to sell fast! Wow this is what Ho2 boat will be worth! How much per foot is this one I failed maths!

Mine is not and will never be for sail so I don't give a hoot South Ace my sons is into marine biology plus a few other thing and loves diving its will be his problem not mine

They do look narrow in the photos! The moldings are identical to mine and I can assure you the dimensions are anatomically perfect for the average person. The high backed backrests should be compulsory in all offshore vessels.

I haven't seen that one but one that sold a month or two back in Sydney around the $30K mark was good for the lead in the keel. Restoration cost would have been around $100K. Interior needed to be cut out and a new fitout installed. Plus rig, engine etc.
