I have a 1993 Yamaha 8 HP 2 stroke on my 23 ft (1800 kg) keeled yacht. I never used the motor for long periods of time .Probably longest I used it for 30 min or so. Is there anyone out there used the engine for longer periods (say 2 hours) without any issues ? (assuming motor is maintained properly , there is enough fuel on board and running at half throttle) . Thank you.

hi I have been around them for 15years or so great outboards they will run for many hours no problem as long it has fuel and the impeller is in good condition for cooling.

I had a 5hp new in 2000 on a rubber ducky.
The motor was used for occasional short runs never serviced other than engine flush and wash. No sign of any corrosion and replaced the spark plug once.
These motors are so simple no point paying $100+ a service .
End result got a small crack in the gear box last year so written off. While twice the price of the cheap brands I had excellent value so staying with what I know.
Traded it in on a new 5hp Yamaha and it looks exactly like the old one so hope it lasts as long.

Thank you very much your response and sharing your experience. That gives me lots of confidence, as well.
Hope you will have many years on your new motor. Enjoy.

Its a good motor and you would probably get a longer lifespan by running it for more than 30mins from time to time. Put it at wide open throttle and let it run for a good dose 15min at least and let it burn up the old oil residue.
