i will be doing some coastal trips on the east coast (day trips in the bay with the family and overnighters up to a week away) with a dream of sailing to lord howe, ok, maybe one day ..... but that may be in the next boat !

the wife is insisting on an enclosed head, with sleeping for 3, maybe 4, though i will be sailing solo too.

i was drawn to the compass 28 / 29 and maybe the easterly 31, or a duncanson 35 ??

i did come across a vancouver 27 in townsville which looked nice too - http://yachthub.com/list/yachts-for-sale/used/sail-monohulls/vancouver-27-reduced-to-sell/135679 - but should that bukh 20 be a worry, and that fusebox ??




Any thoughts ??

Bit confused about the date. Sounds like a 2006 hull but why did it need new hatches? Maybe the old ones leaked. Anyway, worth a look IMHO. Think you'd get it cheaper due to this market.

All good cruising yachts should have washing machines!

No but I could just about own one after the past 5 years visiting them around the coast of Oz !

Yes. I wasted $800 driving up there last weekend to have a look at it and have a sail.

A lovely yacht and a bargain too but NOT a VDS 34 design No. 391.

It is 30' 10" and is design No. 221. It is a weekender/day sailer and club racer. Only just has head room under the cabin top and is crouch/stoop for the rest of it.

I still really favour the Defiances.

A recent edition of Classic Boat magazine features a couple of Vancouver 27's,one of which had an adventurous sail out of Scotland to Norway.

They seem popular up that way as no doubt in Canada as well, but not too many out here in Australia.

I would think your trip times between Ports will be somewhat slow in this type of vessel, however they do look a sturdy yacht with good interior volume.

The one in Townsville does look pretty clean with the owners having done a great deal of work on it.But now heading towards 40 years old, some good independent advice is a must.

You may care to look in previous forums here on the Bukh engines, which has some good information on offer as well.

This is the best one that's been recommended so far keel kicker, be tough if it needs a engine and all. The rest are just toy boats!!! Iv done many miles on a twelve ton cruising yacht and size does matter! And it's not the length that tells you how big a boat is too, Classic is the go with design. Beam = comfort .

Im not sure what you are saying Dezman. Is my Clanny the best deal or you reckon the pacific 36 is better. Its $25000 more and needs a new engine and rigging. Shotchas, from what I know his budget doesn't allow that.

Your's canny sounds like a good deal and for someone on a budget it's a steal, gee how cheap do we have to sell our boats I don't know!!!
But Shotchas has set his mark at 40,000 and the pacific is a lot of boat, a new engine at 7000 plus fitting it he needs to buy at 30,000.
I would say if he can't stretch the money towards $50,000 all up for a comfortable ocean yacht then go with yours to be out there having a ball.

Moorings are made to be left behind in your wake, I lived on anchor for 8 years. Good incentive to keep moving looking for that magic spot, bummer about the ticket.
What was wrong with the boat you went so far to see? A link and info would be nice.
